All Heat Pumps

Question by : two stage heat pump switch board?

I am getting a new Heat Pump system. My installer gave me a great estimate but now he is adding lots of cost. I am looking at a TAPPAN 16 Seer Variable speed heat pump. His estimate in home was just over 5,000. Now he is coming back with 6,500. When asking why he states my two stage switch board is not compatible with variable system and he will have to put in a 500.00 new switch board. Also he states the Dampers may or may not work. I feel like he is trying to get over on me. Any advise from the experts? I cant even find this switch board price online.

They are compatible. I have replaced mine. Get one that specifies it is for a heat pump.
